Code and create

MGM Codes is a collaborative partnership between the City of Montgomery, Montgomery Public Schools, Ed Farm and Apple focused
on bringing transformative and future-focused learning experiences to students, teachers and
community members to the capital city.

2021 MGM Codes Registration

Mayor Steven L. Reed and Montgomery Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ann Roy Moore announce the launch of a new initiative called MGM Codes.

Coding Initiative

The City and MPS created MGM Codes in collaboration with Ed Farm, a nonprofit committed to transforming classrooms and uplifting communities, and Apple Inc. The partners seek to advance innovation, creativity and outcomes for Montgomery middle school students by increasing access to high-tech tools and teaching assets. Ed Farm will assist in offering programs that target teacher fellows, student fellows, classrooms of tomorrow and code clubs.

MGM Codes will bring the latest technology to students and teachers. MGM Codes will introduce Montgomery’s students to coding and creativity using iPad and Apple’s Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create curricula. The initiative also includes comprehensive professional learning opportunities for Montgomery’s teachers to give them the tools to successfully integrate the new technology into their classrooms.

All sessions and support are centered around four core topics: Code, Create, Community, and Cultivate Change and will be interwoven into three phases: Introduction, Integration, and Innovation. Sessions will focus on best practices and are customized to fit the core needs of Montgomery Public Schools teachers and students.

25 Student Fellows per semester, per school
1 Unified Arts Elective course curriculum
1-2 Ed Farm facilitators to co-design and co-facilitate 50% of classes

Code Clubs Programs

8 Weeks Virtual Code Essentials Lite

1-2 facilitators per cohort

Up to 12 students per cohort
Individualized content & curriculum that introduces participants to the fundamentals of coding

16 Weeks Code Club

1-2 facilitators per semester, per school

Everybody should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.

At Ed Farm, we strive to create an inventive world where all people have access to the tools they need to fill or create the jobs of the future. Last year, with the support of Alabama Power and Apple, we began creating that world in Birmingham. Our partnership with the City of Montgomery and Montgomery Public Schools allows us to expand upon that vision and positions us to serve more communities across the state of Alabama.
